── Ariane Mnouchkin, Artistic Director, LeTheatre du Soleil, France.

The latest production by Contemporary Legend Theatre in 2017, adapted from the masterpiece ── Faust I and Faust II by German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The story is about the old scholar Faust’s marvelous life experience after trading his own soul with the devil for the rejuvenation.

After the well-known adaptations of King Lear, Waiting for Godot, and Metamorphosis, Contemporary Legend Theatre is continuing their exploration of performing arts in the fields of classic aesthetic and Peking opera. Contemporary Legend Theatre

In 1986 Contemporary Legend Theatre (CLT) was founded. Since then, CLT has regularly been invited to perform abroad in over 50 cities of 20 countries, including London’s National Theatre, Festival d’Avignon, Edinburgh International Festival, and Lincoln Center, being highly praised and reviewed by media.

The spirit and trait of CLT’s productions are to integrate oriental and western performing arts by fusing the elements of singing, acting, reciting, and acrobatic fighting with Western canons and to present the performance in theatre forms. The performance successfully subverted the playgoers’ recognition of Peking Opera and created a totally new aesthetics of eastern theatre.
